The Mummy Movie Announced for 2026
The Mummy is being revived and will shamble into theaters once again. The newest iteration of the classic monster will be written and directed by Lee Cronin (Evil Dead Rise). Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are producing the movie, alongside Cronin’s Doppelgängers banner.
The plot details have not been revealed yet, however, in a statement Cronin said that it will be unlike previous Mummy movies. He also said that he is working on something that is both frightening and ancient.
Cronin wrote and directed Evil Dead Rise, a lower budget horror flick that was quite successful in theaters. He also wrote and directed the body horror movie The Hole in the Ground, as well as the short films Through the Night and Billy & Chuck.
The Mummy has a long history in film, dating back to the 1932 movie starring Boris Karloff. Universal released five more Mummy movies through 1955. Hammer Films picked up the mantle with 1959’s The Mummy starring Christopher Lee, and three sequels that were produced through ’71. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz starred in the family-friendly Mummy movies in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. More recently, Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella starred in Universal’s blockbuster style horror film The Mummy in 2017.
The new Mummy movie from Cronin is set for theatrical release on April 17, 2026.
