The Nun II: First Look at Horror Sequel

The Nun possessed by the demon Valak is back in The Nun II. Entertainment Weekly got the first look at the new movie, which is set in the 1950s.

The Nun II reconnects with Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) who survived the demon Nun (Bonnie Aarons) in 2018’s The Nun and is now living a quieter life at an Italian convent. Meanwhile, her friend Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) – who became possessed by the Nun at the conclusion of the first movie – is working at a boarding school in France. Valak makes his presence in Maurice known, prompting Irene to confront the monster once again.

The Nun series is a part of The Conjuring film franchise, which are fictionalized retellings of some of the supernatural/demon possession cases that Ed and Lorraine Warren investigated. The franchise branched out with a series about the possessed doll Annabelle and the Nun, the latter of whom was first seen in The Conjuring 2.

The sequel is directed by Michael Chaves, who helmed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Storm Reid (The Last of Us) joins the cast as a nun in training who accompanies Sister Irene on her mission to stop the Nun.

The first movie ended with an appearance by Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed (Patrick Wilson), revealing that the couple would try to exorcise the demon from Maurice in the future. Chaves confirmed that The Nun II will also connect with The Conjuring series, though he did not disclose to what degree.

The Nun II arrives in theaters on September 8, 2023.
