Marvel; $3.99

After a series of side appearances in other Marvel books and videogames, Squirrel Girl is finally getting a chance to star in her own book. The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl reintroduces audiences to Doreen Green, who was first introduced in 1992, as she flies solo – well, with the help of her squirrel friend Tippy-Toe and an army of other bushy-tailed rodents, anyway.

The story by Ryan North successfully helps to establish Squirrel Girl as a quirky, unique member of the Marvel family, as she starts college and immediately is faced with dealing with a surprise visit from Kraven the Hunter. The art by Erica Henderson matches this tone – it’s colorful and expressive without being too busy. Whether you’re a fan of the character already or wondering who exactly Doreen Green is, this is a worthwhile read.
