In 2007, writer-director Michael Dougherty (Krampus) debuted Trick ‘r Treat, a horror anthology film that has become required Halloween viewing for horror fans. The film tells four frightening tales with twists, jump scares and slow burns, and plenty of monsters, both human and otherwise. Now, the world of Halloween mischief is back with Trick ‘r Treat: Witching Hours, a new graphic novel anthology on Kickstarter.

Four never before published stories are told in the anthology. In “Never Too Old” a group of nursing home patients summon the spirit of Halloween, but their enjoyment of the holiday becomes more frightening than planned. “One Last Dance” brings a man back from the dead to reunite with his wife, which leads to a tragic secret. “Harvest Moons” is set far away in a space colony where kids learn about the long neglected Halloween tradition. “Halloween Country” follows three ranch hands who stop an occult ritual and are soon stalked by a half-formed creature from folklore.

Doughtery (whose credits also include Godzilla: King of the Monsters and X-Men 2) is joined on the project by Breehn Burns (writer-director, Bravest Warriors), Todd Casey (writer, Krampus), Tristan Jones (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic writer), Zach Shields (co-writer, Godzilla King of the Monsters), Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night), and Curtis Waugh (The UnPOP Podshow).

The campaign also includes the 10th anniversary edition of Krampus: Shadow of Saint Nicholas. Filled with over 120 pages of content, it is being offered in hardcover for the first time. It has a new cover and an introduction by Dougherty, plus previously unpublished material.

Pledge levels start at $15 for a digital copy of Trick ‘r Treat: Witching Hours and a wallpaper, then $20 gets the book and wallpaper and the Krampus: Shadow of Saint Nicholas in digital format, and the physical copy of Trick ‘r Treat: Witching Hours with the standard cover is $30. Additional rewards include Kickstarter exclusive variant covers, signed bookplates, there are also retailer bundles, an omnibus, concept art print, enamel pins, and more.

The Kickstarter campaign has already surpassed its goal and will be open for backing until Thursday, November 21, 2024.
