Valiant Beyond: Preview of X-O Manowar, Harbinger
Alien Books and Valiant Comics are introducing the “Valiant Beyond” line in the spring of 2025. Spinning out of the Resurgence of the Valiant Universe crossover event, they will star new versions of popular Valiant heroes like Bloodshot, Shadowman, X-O Manowar, Harbinger, and others. According to Alien Books and Valiant, the line is designed to be enjoyed by both new readers and longtime Valiant fans. (Check out our previous coverage on the new titles starring Bloodshot and Shadowman, which arrive in March 2025.)
Valiant Beyond: The X-O Manowar #1 is a four-part adventure that takes Aric of Dacia through a horror-filled wasteland. He must help a family that is being attacked by a gang of Earthborn, and he must face their leader, Typhon. Written by Steve Orlando with art by Guillermo Fajardo, the first issue has a main cover by Ariel Olivetti with variants by Nahuel Grego, Dennis Calero, Andres Ponce, and Olivetti. It arrives in comic shops on April 2.
“Aric of Dacia walks the Red Steppe, the wasteland that sizzles and steams beyond the great utopias of the world. There, his quest is both bloody and ever out of reach – the quest to reclaim his honor after centuries in the cosmic arena. Ever the deadly stranger, Aric’s only allegiance is to his quest, and there’s no shortage of monsters standing in his way,” Orlando said. “Spit up deep from a gash in the dirt are the Earthborn, humans reborn in toxic soil as mad berserkers and the supposed chosen rulers of the Steppe. But these mad men have never met the Man of War.”
Valiant Beyond: All-New Harbinger is a three-issue series following the team of powerful psiots led by Archer, Flamingo, Alloy, and Crane. Still reeling from the recent loss of one of their teammates, they must stop the terrorist Black Sheep who has taken a building hostage. Written by Fred Van Lente with art by Antonio Di Caprio, the first issue comes with a main cover by Bella Rachlin, with variants by Fajardo, Calero, Ponce, and Rechlin. It will be in stores on April 16.
Van Lente compared the new Harbinger comic to the X-Men series set in Krakoa. “Foundation City is a free haven open to anyone wanting a safe place to live and work, patrolled and protected by the Harbinger team of psiots. And, of course, there are plenty of people who hate that this ideal exists, and can’t wait to tear it down,” Van Lente said. “But of course, there are shadows cast in Eden. Everything that seems a little too perfect usually has a dark underside, and when the Harbinger team discovers what that is, they’re going to have to decide where their loyalties really lie.”
