The Vertigo Quarterly series is always a solid pick-up simply because of the huge variety of writers and artists that they manage to pack into these issues. This year’s theme has been sound effects, and this quarter’s theme specifically is the sound “krak.” The wide interpretation of that theme makes this issue easily one of the most dynamic reads so far this year.

Not only do we get interpretations of what the cracking noise itself can indicate, but readers are also treated to interpretations of a “krak” in the wall, as well as a little krak-en. The huge variety of art styles also makes this issue just genuinely fun to look at from cover to cover. Anyone looking for something a little out of the ordinary should enjoy this one.
