In the 1930s and 1940s comic-related clubs were prevalent. This was probably due to the clubs’ frequent offers of decoder badges, membership patches, and some even gave comic money. In 1934, Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit Chewing Gum presented kids with the closest thing to being their favorite comic character: paper comic masks. Kids were able to join The Comic Club and obtain not only comic character masks, but also comic club stamps and 100 bucks in comic club money that were printed the same size of standard currency with various comic characters on them.

The Comic Club offered 19 paper masks that were available for 12 Wrigley wrappers and 3¢ postage each. The masks included Popeye, Jiggs, Maggie, Mrs. Katzenjammer, Captain Katzenjammer, Hans, Fritz, Barney Google, Boob McNutt, Ignatz, Wimpy, Tim Tyler, Tillie the Toiler, Mac, Toots, Casper, Dinty Moore, and Olive Oyl. Included with every order of a mask was a sheet of 19 comic stamps and 100 bucks of comic club money.
