Scully and Mulder went to a small town in East Texas to investigate tales of a giant owl that is snatching people from the ground. Sacky, a local boozer, tells Mulder about the large creature and the FBI Agent sees it for himself – and he meets a talking dog.
Through a conversation with the talking dog, Mulder learns that the owl menace is more than a shapeshifter – it’s someone who can completely take on the guise of an owl. As more bodies are found, the skeptical Scully runs some tests in her search for a more scientific explanation. Naturally, Mulder follows advice of the talking dog and Sacky.
This story by Joe and Keith Lansdale has the elements that make a good X-Files episode with some creepy moments, some funny ones, and that Mulder-Scully chemistry. The art by Silvia Califano and colors by Valentina Pinto bring the story to life with good character representation, with a clear setting and tone.
